Casper's News

I've been finding myself revisiting songs that I have favorited throughout the years on Newgrounds, and I thought it would be pretty neat to put together a list of tracks & artists that I like in case someone entropically stumbles upon it, to hopefully bring them a bit more attention. Maybe you'll find something here that resonates with you, too. That's all I could really ask for.

These are not in any particular order; I'm just gonna be writing about them as I listen. This isn't meant to critique or review per se, it's just things I personally enjoy or was moved by. Having said that, I think I'll start with some artists that I've discovered while judging NGUAC in 2024 & 2025.

1 - @GameBoyFireworks

An incredibly high-quality combination of genres with an equally qualitative mix to match. As I've said in the comment I left on the song, It reminds me a lot of melodysheep. The reason it does so is due to how cinematic it is, being structured in three different acts, each with it's own style, however united by the overarching conductor/train thematic. I really love when songs sample/incorporate organic sounds, and "Conductor" does this flawlessly with the various railroad fx. Even the vocal chops evolve and change throughout the song and are beautifully sprinkled in. The intro has major R&B vibes and the synthy basses sound extremeeely satisfying. The pause at 01:05 is such a small detail that does so much.

Petals in Moonlight is a lofi/chillhop track that handles its ear candy with care representative of the genre. The instrumentation is on point and I'm really a sucker for any and all melodies/compositions that feature horns and bitcrushed leads (it's probably the two things that show up somewhat consistently throughout my own songs, too). This track has the perfect blend of "dirtiness"/detune and clean notes and the punchy drums really bring it all together (at least for me)

If you're into cleanly mixed, experimental and electronic tracks, I'd highly recommend checking out his songs. There's plenty other tracks that demonstrate this, so shuffle around:)

2 - @Walpang

I was and continue to be blown away by the level of quality found in his catalogue! reading about him on his website is even more impressive.

This track is most likely the hardest hitting, best overall hiphop beat that I've heard on Newgrounds. I remember thinking for NGUAC "How do I even judge this, it's so above my paygrade". The various percussion elements keep things constantly in motion and interesting (and serve as ear candy of course). There's definitely a slap bass layer/accent that I can hear and it's sososos good. The vocal play in combination with all that I've mentioned give me a permanent stank face all throughout the beat. The synth comes in at the best moments possible, and I really appreciate the particularly hard hitting part at 01:51. The reverse kick is a neat trick, too, and it works really well here, especially with the other reversed fx in this section.

On the other side of genre spectrum in comparison to the last, "Vignette" is a professional sounding cinematic/synthwave track. It heavily reminds of some segments in Epic Mountain tracks (music made for the Kurzgesagt channel) but also, again, melodysheep and various other music you'd hear in space documentaries (i really like space) or tv shows such as Loki. There's truly not enough arps in the world that play with their note gate and speed. His inspiration, Hyper Light Drifter also seems filled with cinematic sci fi goodies worthy of the same kind of praise.

Going from mean hiphop to cinematic synthwave and now electro-swing, we're probably only scratching the surface of Walpang's skill and talent. Outstanding sound selection, steady but satisfying rhythm provided by well mixed drums. He is veeeeeery underrated, if what I showed you made you curious at all, please check out his profile and other socials!

3 - @mjattie

"Melancholy" is a heart warming piece that as someone else mentioned, is very reminiscing of C418's style when composing Minecraft, especially with how it all swells up and culminates at 01:34, and how the synthy arp later comes in, too. The bitcrushed ambiance really sets the mood, and it's neat how everything loops back at the end though part of me wishes it rang out in delay or distortion or both or something idk. The piano has a lot of weight and impact to it, helped out by the lead/melody now being an octave up with everything else played together at the same time. To me, this style gives off a magical feeling, and the title fits perfectly.

"Kikker Kekbab" has an interesting soundscape with catchy melodies. At 02:30 another sci-fi sounding melody gets introduced, which is then layered with some dynamic panning and accompanied by a fast arpeggio. I really like how cohesive this second part starts feeling, with the deep bass underneath.

"Breathing Glitch" follows a similar template to "Melancholy", while featuring some snappier, harder percussion. It's a bit more sci-fi, which is really starting to show my preference in music, haha.

@mjattie first joined Newgrounds in 2008 and has uploaded 141 tracks, so there's no telling what you'll find if you decide to dig through, such as:

which I particularly enjoyed, the nostalgic melodies and soundscapes still being present here despite the release date of 2011.

4 - @Nxes

Though they don't seem to be active anymore (judging by the posting history) or at least right now, that won't stop me from yapping:v

"A Window to the Soul" is short but sweet lofi beat, with a lot of little things that can be appreciated. It's a reminder that beautiful things don't have to always be complicated. The chords flow nicely with the melody and rhythm and there are a couple stereo glitchy effects. Sound selection is also effectively simple.

I really like the melodies and R&B vibe. The bass scratches an itch, especially the one at 02:14, and the riff at 02:27 is really nice too.

"Satisfaction" features lovely chords with the same R&B vibe. 02:16 and that section onwards is really well put together, returning the previous melody in a more upbeat setting.

While those 3 were hiphop, don't let that fool you as @Nxes also has a variety of genres in their list:

I'd recommend listening to those as well, they have really pretty melodies and completely different vibes than the hiphop tracks.

5 - @IreadysuckS

There are two songs from NGUAC 2025 that I have downloaded and are sitting on my desktop. One of them is

Incredibly clean, dark DnB song. The reese basses are really nice and despite the description, the arrangement to me is really good too

Their latest is just as clean, the songs they consider mid blow so many others out of the water imo. If you're looking for high quality DnB, House and other electronic genres definitely check them out. They have a professional sound to them.

6 - @saria1chigo

The other song that I downloaded from NGUAC 2025 is

Another case of a professional sounding song, the vocals are sooooooooooooooo gooooooooooooooooood. The bass mix is perfect and the drop at 01:31 goes so crazy.

Of course, as is the norm by now with this list, this artist also makes a plethera of genres:

I'm sure you can find even more if you poke around their Twitter and Soundcloud where I definitely heard the fuckass jumpscare noise from fnaf in a song and mixed in it sounded majestic.

7 - @sodakc

This is something I can easily picture in either an anime or some nintendo game. Stellar compositions, the melodies really speak for themselves, so I'm going to drop a few that I enjoyed.

Super clean, if you told me these were songs from some nintendo game that i hadn't known about, I'd totally believe you. Check out their Bandcamp if you want to support them:)

8 - @Quarl

If you've been on Newgrounds for a while, you've probably seen her at some point.

No Boundaries is a song I come back to often. I really love the piano, and the overall emotions the composition strikes in me is not something I can easily explain in words. The panned blips and bloops are satisfying and the drums are really clean. It almost makes me feel bad that I botched the mix when I took over as Quarl as totally not my alt account. Almost.

Jokes aside, another song i come back to just as often is

For similar reasons as No Boundaries, I simply love the emotions that the orchestral composition gives off.

I also like

For no complicated reason other than dubstep that happens to be my taste ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

She also has a Bandcamp, and an extensive number of tracks you can shuffle through right here on Newgrounds.

------------------------------------------

It's actually getting late as I'm writing this, so I'm going to stop for now. I definitely want to do a part two though, since theres so many artists and songs that I have written down in a notepad that I wanna get to! Sorry if there's any grammatical errors or typos, I'm not a good writer.

I'm alive

(ᵗʰᶦˢ ᶦˢ ᵗʰᵉ "ᵖʳᵒᵒᶠ ᵒᶠ ˡᶦᶠᵉ" ᵖᵒˢᵗ). I've still been making music, just haven't had the motivation to upload any of it.

Quick update cause ive been radio silent:

RETROPHONIC is almost done. Like, actually fr fr. There's a couple tracks i feel eehhh about and i still have to mix but the core is fully finished. It's a mix of genres and still very much a “made for fun but trying suspiciously hard” situation. I'll try to be a bit consistent in the uploading, I promise.

The sample pack i mentioned here is still happening again. I'll organize stems and other loops that won't expose my cardinal sins (10 soundgoodizers and OTT on the master, secret sauce trust). Do whatever you want with them, or don't. I aint yo darth vader.

Matter of fact, check out my new song called PH△SESHIFT. Do it rn. You know you want to. Do it or a duck might possibly kill you tomorrow. Who knows. Quack quack quackfucka.

anyway here's a TLDR, not that this was extensive but still:

  • Album is alive and mostly finished
  • New track called PH△SESHIFT is out
  • Sample pack is still in progress
  • Casper alive status: alive (i think)

That's about it for now. Take care and put all my stuff on repeat 67 times or cthulhu will spawn. Please prevent demise by flooding your ears with mah music.

(ᴵ ᵍᵘᵉˢˢ ᵗʰᶦˢ ᵐʸ "ᴵ'ᵐ ᵇᵃᶜᵏ" ᵖᵒˢᵗ). check out 1 and 2

Haven’t made a news post since the end of last year, but I’ve slowly been getting back into the groove of things.

“RETROPHONIC” is officially in motion. (1)

Track by track, I’ll be uploading this album as I make it — starting with these two: Jazztronaut and the latest, the coolest, the baddest, Astrodrift. It’s a mix of jazz, DnB, house, hip hop, and a lil bit of everything else I do. (ᴰᶦˢᶜˡᵃᶦᵐᵉʳ: ᵀʰᶦˢ ᶦˢ ᵃⁿ ᵃˡᵇᵘᵐ ᵒⁿˡʸ ᵐᵃᵈᵉ ᶠᵒʳ ᶠᵘⁿ, ᵗʳʸᶦⁿᵍ ᵗᵒ ᵐᵃᵏᵉ ˢᵒᵐᵉᵗʰᶦⁿᵍ ᵒᶠ ᵠᵘᵃˡᶦᵗʸ ˢᵒ ᵗʰᵃᵗ ᴵ ᶜᵃⁿ ᵃᵗ ˡᵉᵃˢᵗ ᶜˡᵃᶦᵐ ᵗᵒ ʰᵃᵛᵉ ᵃ "ᵈᶦˢᶜᵒᵍʳᵃᵖʰʸ". ᴰᵒ ⁿᵒᵗ ᵉˣᵖᵉᶜᵗ ᶜᵒⁿˢᶦˢᵗᵉⁿᶜʸ, ᵃⁿᵈ ᶦᶠ ᶠᵒʳ ʷʰᵃᵗᵉᵛᵉʳ ʳᵉᵃˢᵒⁿ ᴵ ˢᵗᵒᵖ ᵘᵖˡᵒᵃᵈᶦⁿᵍ, ᶦᵗ ᵐᵉᵃⁿˢ ᴵ ʰᵃᵛᵉ ᵃ ᵈᶦᵉᵈ. ᴬ ᵗʳᵃᵍᶦᶜ, ᵖᵃᶦⁿᶠᵘˡ ᵈᵉᵃᵗʰ. ᴬˢˢᵘᵐᵉ ᵈᵉᵃᵗʰ. ʸᵒᵘ ʰᵃᵛᵉ ᵇᵉᵉⁿ ᵃᵈᵛᶦˢᵉᵈ /ˢ)

A new ѕαмρℓє ρα¢к, also in motion. (2)

I probably announced one before, a fair while ago. Disregard that, because now it's the real deal. ⁽ᴰᶦˢᶜˡᵃᶦᵐᵉʳ: ᶦⁿ ᶜᵃˢᵉ ᵗʰᶦˢ ⁿᵉᵛᵉʳ ᶜᵒᵐᵉˢ ᵒᵘᵗ, ᴵ ᶜᵃⁿⁿᵒᵗ ᵇᵉ ˡᵉᵍᵃˡˡʸ ᵒʳ ᵐᵒʳᵃˡˡʸ ʰᵉˡᵈ ᵃᶜᶜᵒᵘⁿᵗᵃᵇˡᵉ. ᴵ ʰᵃᵛᵉ ᶜᵒᵐᵐᶦᵗᵐᵉⁿᵗ ᶦˢˢᵘᵉˢ.⁾.

Once the album is done, I'll release some stems of melodies, drum loops and whatever feels right to share. It'd be cool to hear them flipped, which is probably not gonna happen  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ but regardless, I'll try to come through with it.

That's about it, see ya

Bye 2023, Welcome 2024 :3

I've been wanting to make a restrospective post and air out some thoughts but I both suck at writing these and gave up on blog posts a while ago lol. 2023 has been the most challenging year as of yet in my personal life as well as in maintaining my online presence.

Before I go about summarizing what I have achieved this year, I wanted to talk a little bit about the future of my music and my activity on this site. Since October, I've been struggling with motivation to keep making music due to some sort of realization. When I first started uploading songs to the audio portal, I set some goals in mind to accomplish that, at the time, seemed like very distant and nigh impossible targets that existed in my mind only for a sense of progression and improvement over time, but now.. I reached all of my goals, which left me feeling a heavy apathy towards any kind of content creation and made me really disappointed with some of my (mostly unreleased) tracks. I haven't had any fun creating for a while now, due to a lack of creativity and skill, however.. for 2024 I plan on setting new goals and taking a more laid back approach to making music, hopefully increasing the quality and the creativity in my works:3

With all of the yappin' out of the way, here's some cool stuff i made this year!

Behold! my stuff :D

I went from making my usual Hip-Hop/Lo-Fi beats

...to making Synthwave (with some House vibes)!

At the beginning of the year, I released a Future Bass-y kind of track:

And I also started a new YouTube channel, @caspersjamsessions which you should totally go and subscribe to, where I made the "oof" sound from roblox into a Drum & Bass track!

iu_1137783_6565760.webp

Eventually, going from Hip Hop to Synthwave, I ended up making full on Electronic House tracks:

To see the rest of my tracks that I've made this year as well as more of the content I create, you should visit my profile and poke around:)

I'll try being more active on my youtube channel, focusing more on some obscure and unique challenges, as well as some parodies;

Not only that but I would also like to be more active on Newgrounds, engaging more with the community!

With January approaching, I will try and participate in @droid 's annual #Jamuary challenge, where you make a song each day for the whole month! With this opportunity, I'll try to explore more ideas and overall have more fun with production, hopefully mainting the quality all throughout:3

With all of that said, make sure to check out my album, Isolated From Creation, right here on Newgrounds!

And my new release, "Escapism" which is gonna be the last song of the year from me ;)

As a final note, I would like to thank everyone that followed and listened to my music, as well as all the lovely people I have talked with and gave me feedback, including the big man himself, @TomFulp ! Irony aside, I have never seen a more dedicated and active person, especially for a site this old and meaningful to the internet!

Happy New Year, Newgrounds!

So I've been cooking up this idea of content creation for a while now and It's finally come to fruition.

With my newest release, "Daybreak Rushing" (which you can listen to here on newgrounds I decided to record part of process and make a (hopefully entertaining) video.

It would mean a lot to me If you checked it out as I spent a while recording and more importantly editing it all together

Yeeah, the age-old dilemma of artists and comparing themselves to other people -- not quite in this case though. For a while now I've been feeling off about this whole thing, taking several breaks, trying out new sounds, genres but nothing seems to stick & I've been circling around the same issue, wanting to quit. Of course, I wasn't able to do that so I just keep making songs, vibe with them for a while and then completely hate them.

The Truth?

I don't have any real talent or skill. No music classes, no real understanding of theory, can't play any instruments, no nothing. Laptops and DAWs are incredibly accessible nowadays and anyone can make relatively decent music, I just know to stay in a scale and whatever I'll click in will always sound good. I take shortcuts with various samples and can never really nail the genre I'm making. The truth? I'm not a hard worker, I am honestly incapable of learning all of this.

What point am I trying to make?

I mean, even with this in mind, as long as I'm having fun with music as a hobby and occasionally upload my stuff online, what's the harm? Well, I'm not really having fun anymore. Before I listened to actual musician's tracks and envied them because I knew I'd never get to their level but now I started to enjoy them. I don't get bothered as much by the fact that I don't enjoy producing music as much.

Conclusion?

Am i gonna quit? Nah, I'll most likely still be around. I just wanted to air out some thoughts and give insight into why I feel this way ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ lemme know ur thoughts.

Hey, I still exist. Haven't uploaded anything because my headphones broke and my mixes are kinda bad lol. I'm still making beats, trying out a bunch of new stuff and sample flipping. You can check out some of these rough, uncomplete beats on my instagram and tiktok, where I promote my stuff cause I'm bored and got nothing better to do than make some audio visualizer vid and overlay the fl project over it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Note: My desktop is filling up with WIPs that I have to come back to lol. These are jazzier beats that I enjoy slightly breaking the rules on.

So yeah, that's about it. Imma upload new shit whenever I'll get some headphones.

I've been having no motivation whatsoever to make music, don't even feel like like opening up the DAW anymore. I'm just not satisfied with the type of sounds that I'm making and a blank project seems more daunting than ever. Coming up with ideas has been.. slow to say the least. Back in December I said that I'd make a sample pack which I never got around to finish and now, looking back at it I feel like the sounds in it are of a lower quality than what I can make today. I still want to make a sample pack someday, but It's definitely not coming out any time soon. With all that being said, I did manage to make WIP song which I think is decent (even though its a lower quality than the standards I have put up for myself) and I'll try to finish it in the coming days, before July 13th. That's about all I wanted to say, hope you'll have a great day!:)

Hello - not sure if anyone reads these, however the reason why i haven't been putting as many songs in december is because I'm working on my own sample pack full of lofi and trap loops that i am making from scratch. I'll also have a look into making my own drums although i'm not sure if i'll have anything other than drum loops since if i can't (yet) make them at the quality that i want then i would rather wait since i value quality > quantity. I've also been making demo tracks made from these loops that i will probably be uploading all at once when they are all properly mixed. This sample pack will be available for free and i'll make a post about it once i finish it but that will take a while since i want it to have a pretty big selection of loops. That's all for now, just wanted to let you know:)
